How would I go about fundraising for an overseas exchange program? Any methods that work well?

I travelled to Malawi from Glasgow,UK last summer to raise money, I got a Saturday job at a chemist, I did a lot of bag packing in supermarkets, and I walked a famous walk, the west highland way which was 96 miles, car washes work well in nice weather and I also held a stall selling things which I bought at a cash and carry. I raised 100% which was �3000 I don't know how much that is in $AU but you have plenty of time to get creative and earn more this took me 6 months starting with nothing. Good Luck :)
