Sharing your plate with your cat?

Is it strange to allow your cat to eat food out of your bowl or plate, even while you are preparing the food, like allowing him to lick the sauce off the meat or eating the ground beef. I think it's cute but some people seem to think it's gross i'm not bothered by it, i just don't get why people think its gross.
