How will New Moon the movie be affected with a new director?
The movie will definitely have a different feel to it because every director has their own vision. So long as they pick a director that understands the emotional depth in the story, New Moon will be fine. Catherine understood the story very well. She was pionate and that is something that you need to be when you are making a movie that has a large fan base. There are a lot of people to please and though you can't please every one of them, you would like to please the majority. I personally think this will be for the better. I liked Twilight and I thought she pulled out very good performances from her actors but I thought that some of the camera work wasn't great. Plus, I was expecting something a little more gritty. I guess after seeing Thirteen, (which by the way was phenomenal) I wanted to see a darker more emotional version. I wanted them to forget the teenage aspect of it and just go with raw performances of the characters. I was hoping also that she would have taken a little direction from Midnight Sun but sadly she did not. I would also be happier if they picked a male director because New Moon is where Jacob Black really comes out. And Jacob got a horrible rap in the books. No one really understood him because it was mostly girls reading it and they were identifying themselves with Bella and her side. But I believe if you had a male director you might be able to receive that point of view from the other end of the spectrum. To be able to see how Jacob and Edward view the situations their in from a male point of view. I know Harry Potter and Twilight are nothing alike but I make this point because they are both in a series. Christopher Columbus directed the first two films for Harry Potter. They were good but not spectacular. They were more based for little kids because that happens to be that director's area of expertise. However, when they switched directors to Alfonso Cauron the series took on a whole other level because he was not directing the movie for a child audience anymore. He saw that these movies can be something more. He pushed the actors further emotionally and made the tone darker (which is the way the movies are supposed to be) and made the movie better than ever. The third Harry Potter movie is the highest rated movie of the series so far and there is a reason for it. Alfonso read subtle things in the book that he fed into the movie. Things that are so small others looked over but he saw things only a few other people did. And we can see that the other directors that came after Alfonso took his lead and set deep and darker tones to their movies which are much more liked by the majority (and truer to the story). If they can find a director who can "read between the lines" I will be ecstatic. Stephanie Meyer has a fantastic idea, but she has stated multiple times, she is not a professional writer. She did this just for herself. They need someone who can see her vision and make it even better. Reach even further. And most importantly forget that the actors are portraying "teenagers". I never once thought of Bella or any other characters age in the book. I instead focused on being wrapped in the story of what was happening to these characters. That is what makes a fantastic director. To look outside the box. If they can find someone who can give New Moon a more grown up feel, then they will really have something.
