Do cigarettes make it worse when you have a swollen tonsil???

Ok my left tonsil is swollen it hurts to swollow sometimes hurts to talk but it manily gets bad in the morning and night n my jaw on the left side ends up hurting n sometimes i will bite my left side of my tounge sometimes it helps a little i gargle warm salt water, drink hot tea with honey, and hot chocolate its hard to swollow food so usually i have to eat soup manily drink the broth but usually cant finish it. it doesnt make me wanna eat or drink. i dont have any white pathches or anything its not swollen super bad but is pretty swollen and havent gone to the doctor yet i have an appointment for tomarrow but i was just wondering is there anything else i can do to maybe help it ease up since the stuff i am doing doesnt seem to? and does smoking cigarettes make it worse for it to ease up n possibly heal????
