Are D-1 colleges and D-2 colleges are different academicaly?

Because i have a nephew that wants to play football for college for LSU or Morgan state depending on the academic level like for example; is d-1 colleges are harder academically than d-2 colleges like for the claddwork you have to do in cl or they both have the same difficulty level.
